War and Peace. The Beginning of the Novel
Leo Tolstoy
Scenes from the Novel

The Workshop had spent more than seven years preparing the stage production based on Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece. As a result, only the novel’s opening chapters ended up on stage.
Natasha Rostova in love with Boris Drubetskoy is still a foolish child. The little Princess Lize is yet to perish giving birth, and Prince Andrei is only getting ready for the army. The war is just a subject of small talk and boys’ games, but the heart already aches from the awareness of peaceful life’s fragility and unreliability.

  • Prizes
  • Winner of the Golden Mask Prize in the “Drama/Small Scale Production” category, 2002

The stage production has been performed in Ukraine, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, and the US.

This is four hours of happiness interrupted by two intermissions.
