Antigona
Jean Anouilh

ñïåêòàêëü òåàòðà «Studio 711»

Antigone is a play by French playwright Jean Anouilh, which tells the story of the clash of generations and the search for one's right to happiness. The play is based on the tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles. Young Antigone is the niece of King Creon, ruler of Thebes. She could have become the wife of the king's son, and could one day become queen herself, but to do so, she would have to turn a blind eye to injustice: two of her brothers have been killed, one of them declared a criminal by Creon and denied the legal right to a decent burial. Little Antigone cannot accept this. She knows her brother is innocent and does not deserve such dishonor. But the king's word is law, and he has already declared his will. Antigone attempts to rewrite history, putting sisterly love first. Creon appeals to the mind, Antigone to the heart. And each has their own truth.
