The Cherry Orchard Anton Chekhov Comedy in 4 acts
The last major play was written by Chekhov, who was already seriously ill, in just a few months of 1903. The premiere took place at the Moscow Art Theatre in January 1904. Six months later, in June 1904, Chekhov died. During rehearsals, Anton Pavlovich persistently argued with Nemirovich and Stanislavsky, who saw a tragic beginning in the play. “I often see'through tears,' but this only shows the mood of the face, not the tears,” He writes indignantly to Nemirovich-Danchenko. Chekhov's heroes look at their lives, at their past — “Paris is finished!..“, „Dear wardrobe, I greet your existence!..” — with tear-stained eyes, but also with a smile. With tenderness and sadness. With childish hope and faith they look into the future, dream, make ephemeral plans, projects… Big kids, left alone with this life. Funny and touching. They dream, quarrel, make up, and meanwhile life passes, and the Titanic quietly goes down along with the dancers and the «famous Jewish orchestra — four violins, a flute, and a double bass.» A small, cozy world, full of touching memories, turns into a tiny grain of sand on the edge of the universe, shrinks to a toy train found in the corner of a former nursery.
The performance includes the following musical works: A. Schnittke “Polka“, V. Moroz “Polka“, G. Kitler waltz “Expectation“; folk klezmer music: “A Nakht in Gan Eydn“, Abraham Brudno „Friling”, Neshama Carlebach / Natalie Joung „Vehaer Eineinu”; romance „The Moon Hid Behind a Cloud” (music by A. Dubuk, lyrics by V. Chuevsky), romance „The Night Was Shining” (music by N. Shiryaev, lyrics by A. Fet) performed by I. Yuryeva (recorded in 1954)
